Screening Introduction

Nowadays, screening and early detection saves thousands of lives. It is true that breast cancer is a major cause of cancer deaths all around the world, but with new methods of detecting it in early stage; many of these deaths perhaps can be avoided.

Breast screening is a technique to detect breast cancer at a very early stage. This method may involve different steps. The first one is the MAMMOGRAM, which is taken by using special equipment and through compressing the BREAST. Although some women find it uncomfortable, it is a reliable method to detect any abnormality in the breast. In fact, this study can identify small changes in breast issue, which can be so small that may be difficult to detect by women or even by physicians. X-ray mammography is a reliable and safe procedure that records the internal issues of breasts. They are highly recommended as a preventive factor, particularly for women of certain ages and for those who are part of a group at risk of BREAST CANCER.

BREST CANCER screening is an effective method to find unsuspected cancers. Apart from mammograms, other screening methods are self and clinical breast exams, x-ray mammography, and breast Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). To assess patients deeply, some genetic testing may also be used.

When we mention breast self-examination, we refer to examining one's own breasts using a precise palpation technique to feel any lumps in the BREAST TISSUE, which should be assessed. Physician and family doctor clinical exams are similar, except they use a more accurate technique to detect any lump.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is another test to help practitioners to diagnose breast cancer. In this case, MRI equipment uses a magnetic field, radio waves and a computer to create clear pictures of soft tissues.

Remember that early detection is the best protection for women. Screening tests done on regular basis provide patients with the option of a baseline comparison.

It is also important to consider genetic testing for breast cancer. Before making the decision to face a genetic test, people should evaluate the impact that they can feel when receiving a positive test result. They may have to cope with long-term preventive measures that may bring some difficulties. Genetic testing for BREAST CANCER typically involves testing for mutations in the BRCA genes. It is done on a blood sample.

Screening information can help women to make the right choices to manage their own medical destiny.
